What to expect?
Each session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes .
The initial consultation involves gathering the patient’s case history, a discussion about hypnosis, and the client’s expectations of the therapy. Goals are discussed and hypnotherapy is carried out only when therapist and patient feel happy about working with each other.
The therapy begins with what is called a “hypnotic induction”, whereby relaxation is encouraged and attention is shifted from the external environment. The patient then enters a relaxed state, where the conscious mind goes on “standby” and the subconscious mind becomes more receptive. The hypnotherapy session continues with the hypnotherapist assisting the patient to find meaningful alternatives to the patient’s current ways of thinking, feeling or behaving.
